The sharing economy: Newcomers and old-timers share learnings

Hosted by Collaborative Consumption Europe, speakers and panellists include Matt Holmes of RCI and The Registry Collection, and up for debate will be how new and old businesses in the shared-ownership sector can work together for growth.

Collaborative Consumption Europe (CCE) is a network for people participating and contributing to the sharing economy, from business founders and influencers, to journalists and investors. The Networking Series of events was launched and is chaired by Debbie Wosskow, CEO of Love Home Swap and is sponsored by Osborne Clarke.

CCE runs its final breakfast event of 2013 on 19 November at One London Wall, London, and brings an influential panel of shared ownership business leaders and pioneers to the table to discuss the latest trends in the sharing economy. The event puts both established operators and new entrants on the same platform to explore what they can learn from each other and how they can collaborate to shape a concept that, despite being around for years, remains largely unexploited.

“There is a broad church of people looking at the sharing economy, from those with holiday homes and skills such as cooking, to financial services,” says Wosskow. “Collaborative Consumption Europe was established to bring those people together to share best practice and discuss many of the business pillars such as building consumer trust, marketing and accessing investment capital. We meet once a quarter and our group has now grown to around 100 attendees. We are pleased to welcome Matt Holmes, Head of Business Development, RCI and The Registry Collection, to our last event of 2013 as RCI pioneered holiday home swap and sharing when it launched holiday home exchanges nearly four decades ago.”

Some of the topics to be discussed include:

  • Is collaborative consumption really a new trend, or does it merely describe how business has been done for years?
  • What lessons can be learnt from established collaborative consumption businesses?
  • What are the trends that new entrants are capitalising on?
  • What do consumers really want? And who can they trust?
  • How well are older businesses adapting, and how do they keep ahead of the curve?
  • How can New and Old work together? 
  • Do established businesses view new entrants and start-ups as a threat, a motivation or an acquisition target?

The CCE Breakfast will be held at 8:30am on Tuesday, 19 November at the offices of Osborne Clarke, One London Wall, London, EC2Y 5EB in the UK. The panel discussion will start at 9am.
