The world’s top rated timeshare resorts, ranked according to their TripAdvisor excellence ratings, have been revealed by resale specialists Worldwide Timeshare Hypermarket.
The findings were published in the online version of UK tabloid newspaper The Mirror, and provide some much-needed positive publicity for the industry.
Forty out of the best-selling/best-rated 50 timeshare resorts boast the TripAdvisor 2013 Certificate of Excellence – an excellent result for the industry, and one that reflects the high standards of holidays on offer within the shared ownership sector.
Sought-after timeshare destination Marbella, a favourite with celebrities and athletes, featured heavily in the results, with Marbella Beach Resort, part of Marriott Vacation Club, one of the Certificate of Excellence winners in 2013.
According to TripAdvisor, the ‘Certificate of Excellence’, is “given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews…and represent the upper echelon of business listed on the website, with only the top 10 per cent receiving the prestigious award”.
The island of Madeira also fared particularly well, with five resorts in the Top 50, all of holding the Certificate of Excellence (CoE), and one the recipient of a prestigious Travellers Choice Winner award.
Of the reviews posted on these resorts, 93 per cent of online reviewers rated their stay as “Excellent” or “Very Good” while only two per cent considered their experience to be less than average.
The Canary Island of Gran Canaria also has five resorts in the Top 50, four of which being recipients of the TripAdvisor CoE for 2013. In addition, out of more than 400 reviews the resorts were given, 89 per cent of reviewers said they had enjoyed an “Excellent” or “Very Good” experience.
But the undoubted jewel in Spain’s timeshare crown is Marbella. With eight resorts in the Top 50, the Costa Del Sol boasts some impressive retreats, not least the Marbella Beach Resort and Playa Andaluza. All eight resorts have been awarded the CoE for 2013 and of over 1,400 reviews, 87 per cent of users were very happy with their holidays, rating the resorts “Excellent” or “Very Good”.
The Mirror article, sponsored by Worldwide Timeshare Hypermarket, also explains the basic timeshare concept, exchange programmes available, and advantages of ownership, including value for money, high standards of accommodation, the perk of more space than a hotel room and more.
The feature also touches on the issue of high-pressure sales presentations and rogue traders that have left some owners with a product that is ill-suited to their needs or perhaps one that they don’t clearly understand, but also points out how times are changing with customers able to access a greater range of products, greater flexibility and have a more informed choice.
Worldwide Timeshare Hypermarket’s CEO Phil Watson came up with the idea of using the article as a way to educate non-owners about the industry and particularly the high quality of timeshare accommodation.
Watson said: “We noticed that a very high percentage of the resorts we deal with daily have been awarded TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence, and since timeshare-specific accolades may not have much meaning to non-owners, we thought the article would go a long way to helping highlight the higher quality of accommodation timeshare can provide.
“As the world’s most visited travel site, TripAdvisor provides a good platform for benchmarking timeshare resorts against other forms of holiday accommodation. The vast majority of our existing customers already search TripAdvisor prior to making any purchase or exchange reservation and the reviews on TripAdvisor are now numerous enough to credibly highlight the standards of accommodation timeshare and holiday ownership can provide.”
