Building work, at a cost of €3.5 million, is currently under way at the outdoor theme park, which is expected to attract 100,000 visitors every year.
Based on the world-renowned game and other entertainment content created by Rovio Entertainment Ltd, the Angry Birds Activity Parks are proving as successful a phenomenon as the Angry Birds game itself, and after the successful launch of three parks in Kuusamo, Saariselkä and Saimaa in Finland, Holiday Club, decided to bring the concept to Gran Canaria.
Vesa Tengman, CEO of Holiday Club Resorts, said: “The European travel industry should concentrate more on contents. Too often the focus is on accommodation – of which there is already an oversupply.
“Active holidays are pivotal in Holiday Club. The Angry Birds Activity Parks complement our concept, which offers high quality holiday accommodation and services as well as year-round activity possibilities.”
The new park in Gran Canaria will increase and complement the current leisure offering in the south of the island and appeal to local residents as well as international travellers.
Calvin Lucock, managing director of Holiday Club Canarias said: “We are all very excited about the imminent opening of the Angry Birds Activity Park in the municipality of Mogán. This new endeavour will certainly add value to Puerto Rico and attract more visitors to the area. Apart from being a significant tourist attraction, it will also serve the local people and create new job opportunities.”
All the activity parks are being constructed by the Finnish Lappset Group – one of the leading playground and exercise equipment producers in Europe. In Gran Canaria, several local construction companies have been contracted to carry out all preliminary building works, while Lappset will undertake installation of the equipment. A distinctive range of unique indoor- as well as outdoor activities will be on offer. The Angry Birds Activity Parks are aimed at all age groups, and designed to guarantee a unique and wholesome experience for everyone.
