Creating holiday experiences where youngsters can participate in outdoor activities and learn about nature has won a top accolade for CLC World’s Trenython Manor resort at the recent UK Considerate Hoteliers awards.

The annual awards recognise hoteliers who adopt sustainable, environmentally friendly and socially responsible practices. Nick Waddington, manager at the resort, an historic country house hotel in Cornwall, was delighted to pick up the award for ‘Best Green/Considerate Marketing initiative’.

The Trenython team was also honoured to receive a Highly Commended for ‘Hotel of the Year 2013’ as joint runners-up in a hotly contested category.

A range of free activities for youngsters at the resort include den building, rock pooling, mini-beast safaris and more. In addition, the grounds are home to a kids’ vegetable garden, a bee and butterfly garden, a run that is home to giant rabbits, an adventure playground with bird hide, and restored ancient woodland paths. The resort also employs a wide range of eco-friendly measures including its food composter, low energy heating and intensive recycling.

Judges commented: “Nick Waddington and his team have created a wildlife haven in the depths of Cornwall that serves as a learning platform for the families that come and stay at Trenython. It’s fun, it’s considerate and it works!”

For Trenython it is all part of following the (green) brick road and building on environmental opportunities to enhance the offer. Waddington said: “With our strong green credentials, we love to be able to say holidays are in our nature.”
